PIN–UP SUMMER DINNER

by PIN–UP

On July 14, 2022, PIN–UP hosted a dinner for over 50 people at the Times Square EDITION in New York to celebrate the new, limited edition cover of PIN–UP’s latest Spring/Summer issue. The cover features the “Women of New York,” a loose network of New York-based curators, scholars, and gallerists who are reshaping the city’s premier art and cultural spaces, including Salome Asega, the director of New Inc., Naomi Beckwith, The Guggenheim’s Deputy Director and Chief Curator, Ebony L. Haynes, the founder of 52 Walker, Kellie Jones, the new chair of the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies at Columbia University, Legacy Russell, The Kitchen’s Executive Director and Chief Curator, and Nicola Vassell, founder of Nicolas Vassell Gallery. Studio Museum in Harlem director Thelma Golden spearheads the feature, which was conceived by PIN–UP editor Emmanuel Olunkwa.

The dinner was held at The Gardens, the Times Square EDITION hotel’s ninth-floor winter garden. Amid lush vegetation and illuminated by the colorful billboards of Times Square, guests dined on grilled dourade and tuna crudo while enjoying speeches by PIN–UP founder and creative director Felix Burrichter and PIN–UP editor Emmanuel Olunkwa. Guests included cover stars Salome Asega and Nicola Vassell, as well as Thelma Golden; artists such as Henrike Naumann, Isaiah Davis, WangShui, Esther Choi, Theresa Chromati, and Aria Dean; architects Nile Greenberg, Sean Canty, Rafael de Cárdenas, and Michael Abel; fashion designers Telfar Clemens and Victor Barragán; and cultural figures such as Martino Stierli, Stefanie Hessler, Carson Chan, Kimberly Drew, Whitney Mallett, and Stuart Comer. Also in attendance: chef Andy Baraghani, cover photographer Caroline Tompkins, PIN–UP art director Ben Ganz, lifestyle icon Beverly Nguyen, art dealer Peter Currie, designer Sam Stewart, stylists Amanda Pham and Greg Miller, and many more.
