NEW YORK CITY HARLEQUIN

Debuting PIN–UP HOME’s De Sede Collaboration at Duplex Design

by PIN–UP

When PIN–UP caught up with Duplex founder Patrizio Chiarparini before the New York City début of PIN–UP HOME’s colorful collaboration—the DS-2011 HARLEQUIN—with De sede in his white-walled Williamsburg gallery, Chiarparini noted he was a bit surprised that PIN–UP HOME chose to reinterpret that particular design. Rather than go for the DS-600 “Nonstop” or the DS-1025 Terrazza, two of the icons in the renowned Swiss producer of handcrafted leather furniture’s collection, “PIN–UP chose a quieter house staple,” said Chiarparini. “It is the perfect dialogue between a classic de Sede original and the buoyant, youthful spirit of PIN–UP HOME.”

PIN–UP HOME transformed this buoyant spirit into a material reality at the NYC launch of the DS-2011 HARLEQUIN, hoisting the chromatic couches atop black tubular frames so they appeared as if they were floating in the air. Partygoers could then see the design’s chromatic nature, inspired by brightly painted Roman sculpture, the color experiments by Swiss architect Le Corbusier, and the vivid palettes of artists like Johannes Itten, Sarah Morris, and Peter Halley, up close and from all angles as they sipped on Yola Mezcal. It’s only fitting that Chiarparini’s gallery was the host for the party during NYCxDesign—Duplex is the United States distributor of the upholstered seating collaboration, and Chiarparini is the person responsible for connecting PIN–UP HOME with de Sede in the first place.
