Maria Foerlev, founder of the Copenhagen design gallery Etage Projects, spends her workweek bridging the worlds of art and design, showing the likes of Anna Aagaard Jensen, Bahraini—Danish, Minjae Kim, Sabine Marcelis, Soft Baroque, and other talented creators. “I show work that translates conceptual visions into the realm of everyday life,” she says of the space she opened in 2014. “Our mind can absorb everything at once, but language puts things into boxes, whether that’s architecture, art, music, poetry, or design,” she explains. “When something has both an artistic and practical value, the poetry becomes the hook between the concept and the user — the interaction gives it another dimension.” On weekends, however, Foerlev finds herself interacting with the city she calls home. Whether it’s visiting free-roaming alpacas, enjoying experimental theater, or noshing on an actually Danish danish at her favorite coffee place, here are a few things she recommends to capture that “Copenhagen Spirit.” (Bike strongly recommended.)
