THE PIN–UP QUOTE: MARTINO GAMPER

There are a lot of connections between food and design. In both disciplines you have a given amount of ingredients, and in both cases there aren’t really any new ingredients coming into the world — well, with the exception of new types of polymers, and NASA stuff maybe. But basically all design is made of the same given materials. So it’s all about the combination and how you construct, techniques that you use to refine it. You have a piece of wood, and you can decide to cut it this way or that way, you know, drill it. The same with food: if you have a potato, you can slice it that way, fry it this way, and so on. Both can be quite spontaneous, as well.
